September has proved a watershed for the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club, when two of the club's younger members took the top honours, brushing aside the old guard in major competitions.

Promising young golfer Jeff Hall powered his way to victory on Saturday 15th September against another youngster, Lyndon Richards, in the final of the Club Championship.

Since retiring from football, where he made quite a name for himself as a goalkeeper, Hall has devoted himself to golf.

Typically modest in victory, Hall attributed the silky smooth swing that took him to victory on the soft hand technique that he has been perfecting recently.

He has volunteered to share his knowledge and speak in detail on the virtues of this technique at the annual awards dinner to be held at The Rolls in December.

Hall, exhausted from his efforts in the Club Championship, was a late withdrawal from the Sunday competition, The Alec Sebright Memorial Trophy, where another future star of the cub, 15-year-old George Farrington, swept to his first senior win by a narrow one-point margin ahead of Adrian Clark, with Steve Scott in third place.

Farrington, who attends Monmouth School, has been honing his golf game in between representing his school at rugby and soccer.

He singled out the slightly older Hall as the role model that he would like to follow to the top of the local club scene.

The Rolls of Monmouth golf professional, Simon Aston, praised Farrington for the strides he has made in recent months and expressed confidence that he will improve further if he maintains the level of effort shown to date.
