Good pre-season preparations without defeat in their trial games had Monmouth raring to go against Hafodyrynys RFC last Saturday (7th September), but as expected the visitors proved to be no pushover.

A close game was won 14-6 thanks to a try by right wing Anthony Layne and a good kicking display by Rhys Ricketts including an excellent effort from some 50 metres out.
