AN extra walk has been added to the annual Rotary Club sponsored Walk the Wye, which takes place on Sunday 11th May.

This new walk has been added to celebrate the Wye River Festival. It will take walkers up to several vantage points above Monmouth and provide them with stunning views over Monmouth and the Wye valley, to the Welsh hills beyond.

Now in its 6th year, the Walk the Wye event will again be raising funds for the In The Pink breast cancer research charity. Previous Rotary Club sponsored walks in support of the breast cancer research charity have raised more than £55,000, and it is hoped to increase that to £70,000 this year.

In addition to the new walk, there are the usual six walks to choose from along the banks of the River Wye, starting at Chepstow, Tintern, Bigsweir, Redbrook, Symonds Yat or Kerne Bridge: distances to suit everybody, from 2 miles to 15 miles.

Why not select a walk, ask your friends to join you, and enjoy the wonderful Wye Valley scenery.

The format is the same as in previous years. Walkers will meet at Monmouth Show Ground and buses will take them to the start of their chosen walk. They will then walk back to the Show Ground on the footpaths along the Wye Valley.

In The Pink Charity was formed 12 years ago by a former breast cancer patient and her friends. To date they have raised over £1.1 Million for the breast cancer research team at Velindre, Cardiff.

The entry fee for this year's walk has been maintained at just £4, (includes free parking at Monmouth Show Ground and free buses to take walkers to the start of their chosen walk).
