MONMOUTH under nines brought their season to a close with a convincing 67 run win away to Chepstow on Sunday.

Despite losing the toss, captain Hattie Brennan was happy to field first and saw her bowlers quickly gain the initiative. Early wickets from openers Patrick Stubbs and Lauren Maguire set the tone, followed by a four wicket haul for William Wilton, along with strikes from Catrin Watkin, Sam Brennan, Megan Maguire and Bea Jones. Two smart catches from the skipper capped an excellent fielding performance, with debutants Owen Hinds and Bella Wilton particularly lively.

Openers Tom McNally (16) and Sam Brennan (9) got Monmouth’s reply off to a flying start, before solid knocks from William Wilton, Watkin, Stubbs and Sophie Swingwood saw Monmouth home safely.

Coach Liam Stubbs praised the win, which brought the curtain down on the under nines most successful season yet.

"2015 has been an outstanding season for the side. Although we will lose some significant players as they move up the age groups, we still have a huge amount of talent in the under nine section. I look forward to seeing these young players develop next year and hope we will see some new faces emerge too."

Monmouth CC would like to thank the parents of all the children who played this summer and who have played such an active role in the success. Anyone interested in playing junior cricket in 2016 should contact [email protected]
