Monmouth made hard work of winning at Usk on Sunday, eventually finishing with four tries to two.

The home side gave Monmouth a much closer game than last year, tackling and rucking well to thwart the visitor's attacks.  Monmouth took a while to warm up and wake up, often not competing quickly for the ball on the ground.

However, a good try down the right wing from Adam Davies put Monmouth into an early lead.  Usk struck back later in the first half, so it was all to play for after half time.

Man of the match Angus Whitehead scored the first of his two tries straight from the kick off of the second half, running half the length of the pitch.  Ben Williams tackled hard and carried well through-out, Xav Brevet again was fastest to the loose ball, and Kieran Williams competed well, often against lads that were much larger than him, making two excellent try saving tackles close to the Monmouth line.

Will Wood made a guest appearance for Usk to replace an injured player, and Owen Roberts, Andrew Gissop and Oliver Light played well, coming on as replacements during both halves.

Oliver Scrivens scored a good try in the corner to give Monmouth some breathing space, before they conceded a last try to Usk.  Monmouth will revert to English (Forest) rules on Sunday with a game against Cinderford.
