MONMOUTH Cricket Club's under-9s made it a hat-trick of wins with a huge 72 run victory away to reigning champions Brockhampton on Sunday (21st June).

Monmouth's squad of 11 included six girls, and coach Liam Stubbs praised a "very special effort and a very special win".

Bowling first, the visitors were consistently among the wickets, with Patrick Stubbs (2-9) and William Wilton (2-5) the stand out bowlers.

There were then wickets for Lauren Maguire, Sam Brennan and William Tatham, while Tatham also produced two spectacular run outs as Monmouth excelled in the field, with two catches for the safe hands of the returning Anna Vines.

Monmouth's reply got off to a flying start from Sam Brennan and debutant Vena-Rose Saunders, with a partnership of 28.

Even this was eclipsed by Hattie Brennan and skipper Wilton who blasted 41 together in just four overs. Raphael Cackett bravely batted with an injury, before another solid knock from Catrin Watkin guided Monmouth home.

Monmouth are now up to third in the table ahead of next week's clash with Ross.
