A talented netballer is shooting for the stars in the national league, reports Ian Morgan.

Seventeen-year-old Anna Leeke, pictured above from Usk shone for the regional side’s U19 Vitality Netball team in the National Performance League finals weekend in Nottingham.

The Monmouth School for Girls Year 12 student, who plays at goal attack or goal shooter, played in all three Severn Stars’ fixtures and was twice voted player-of-the-match by the opposition.

The team lost narrowly to Manchester Thunder 54-42 and Leeds Rhinos 55-49

before bouncing back with a 51-43 win over North East to place ninth overall.

Anna is delighted to be part of the pathway for Severn Stars, one of the UK’s leading netball clubs, currently based at the University of Worcester and the University of Gloucestershire.

Anna took part in a number of trials to gain selection.

She is training at the University of Worcester twice a week, while balancing other school sports, alongside studying PE, Maths and Geography at A level in Monmouth Schools Sixth Form.

Anna also plays netball for the school’s first team and is a member of the Newport club, as well as the South-East Wales Under-18 squad.

Previously, she was in Monmouth School for Girls’ Severn Stars Nova Academy, at U17 level, and used this experience to further her skills and knowledge
