MONNOW Swimming Club had a strong presence at this year's Newport Junior Development meeting held on Saturday 16th May at the International Swimming Centre in Newport.
The swimmers were up against tough competition from several teams around the south east region of Wales, including those from Cardiff, Newport, Methyr Tydfil and Chepstow.
Ten young Monnow swimmers competed in the event and achieved six medals, including one gold, two silver and three bronze.
The gold medal went to Isabella Worgan (pictured) for the 10-years 50m butterfly.
Isabella won a further silver medal for the 10-years 50m backstroke and was joined by Ellie Brindley, who won a silver medal for the 12-years 200m freestyle.
Bronze medals went to Eleanor Emes, who won two bronze medals in the 10-years category for her 50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley. Laura Willis won her bronze medal for the 12-years 200m individual medley race.
Coach Jane Sambrook said: "Congratulations to all those who took part in the competition; it was a long, hot day and everyone did incredibly well.
"I'm so proud of everyone – they swam their socks off!"
The club would also like to thank the coaches for their hard work in training the swimmers to such a high standard and to the parent helpers at the event, without whom events such as these would not be possible.
The next event that swimmers are invited to take part in is the Hoover Shield Gala at Pontypool ALC on Saturday 13th June.
This will be followed by the Cardiff Bay Sprint meeting, which will be held at the Cardiff International Pool on Saturday 4th July.
All club members over the age of nine are encouraged to take part in this event, which will give swimmers the opportunity to swim in a 50m pool and gain official times.
