In the midst of one of the wettest summers on record, the sun made an all too rare appearance to grace Captains' Day at The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club on Sunday 1st July.

An early morning shower greeted the day's contestants as they arrived at the club but before the first ball was struck, the clouds cleared and pleasant almost warm weather prevailed.

Captains' Day, always a jewel in the golfing calendar, brought together a large number of golfers, both male and female, vying for prizes in a light-hearted Stableford competition.

Men's and ladies' captains, Dick and Jo Bull, kept spirits up with a constant flow of refreshments around the course as the golfers did their best to match the weather with good golf.

Few succeeded but for the notable exceptions of Ruth Light, whose consistency this year was rewarded with another first prize in the ladies' section along with men's winner Brian Patterson, who was the only man to score below handicap on the day.

Sue Bennett and Steve Scott achieved second places, with Dawn Cumbley and Nigel James taking the third place spots.

The day culminated in a sumptuous feast selected by the captains and exquisitely prepared by the Rolls of Monmouth catering staff.

Dick Bull thanked all participants for their attendance and contribution to a memorable Captains' Day while ladies winner Ruth Light reflected the feelings of the participants by thanking the captains for their tireless efforts in organising such a wonderful day.
