It may be understandable for the Prime Minister to forget the team he supports but most Monmouth supporters would like to forget this entire game in a hurry as a Lido goal from one of only two shots they attempted was enough to take all of the points on offer.

Town started brightly enough shifting the ball well on a pitch that that really recovered from a hard winter but were caught cold in a counter attack on 16 minutes and a finish at the returning Blackburn's near post gave lowly Lido the lead.

At that stage it didn't seem critical as Town went hunting for the equaliser but Harrhy pulled up with calf strain to be replaced by Laurie and Alderdice, was shifted to centre forward and possible reliable firepower had been lost. Alderdice was called into immediate action but his rustiness in that position led him to pass rather than shoot and the chance was gone.

He is however more than a makeweight and played an old fashioned number 9 role bringing others into the game and a superb half volley from MacDonald from distance (pictured right) struck the bar and down and out as half time approached.

Town pressed again in the second half with Cleaves looking lively and Evans (pictured left) showing why he is so valuable top the team.

The introduction of Ford on 63 minutes certainly livened up proceedings as it often does and it was his directness that started to cause consternation in the Lido ranks.

His shot was parried and Evans placed the rebound over and Alderdice had another shot shave the post but the equaliser wouldn't come.

As the game entered its formal 15 minutes Ford drew a foul and some retaliation and was head butted for his tenacity.

The red card was not enough for the offender who dished out another head butt on his way to the showers. In the final minutes of chaos there would be no coming back for Monmouth and they suffer their 11th defeat.

Results elsewhere meant they will finish in sixth position and play their final home game of the season at Penypound on Saturday 2nd May against third from bottom Cambrian & Clydach before taking on Goytre FC in the Gwent Senior cup final on May 16th.
