SUDBROOK seconds clinched their division one title by winning at Chepstow on Saturday, with Rob Simmonds the main destroyer.
After the visitors won the toss and decided to field, Chepstow lost opener Ryan Scrivens and although Scott Bailey (24) and Jamie Rayner made 35 before being bowled by Jon Clements, Simmonds ripped the heart out of Chepstow’s middle order for the addition of only three runs to end with 5-37 from his eight overs.
Despite a late flourish that saw Josh Tregaskes (20), Paul Swingwood top-score with 36 and Tim Rees chip in with 24, Chepstow’s innings ended on 160 all out with five overs to spare.
In reply, Sudbrook lost three wickets for 14 runs early in the game but skipper Jamie Watkins dug in and carried his bat for a fine 86 not out and, although he lost Scott O’Leary for 36, he and partner Max Heathman (5 not out) saw Sudbrook through to 164-4 with two overs left.
