SPIRIT of Monmouth’s Katie Adams was at the Shrewsbury Running Festival running for Wales in the Women's 5k Masters against England on Saturday.

She was just two seconds over the magic 20 minutes, but with temperature pushing towards the 30Cs this was quite an achievement, as she placed 30th out of 77 overall and sixth out of 17 in her age category.

Sunday saw the Mic Morris 10k, a fast, downhill, closed-road race starting in Blaenavon and finishing in the picturesque setting of Pontypool Park, which can offer the perfect opportunity to achieve a PB, especially with the strong local support.

First Spirit home was Tom Chinnick in 23rd place out of 1,041 and fourth in class with a time of 36.41.

Next was Sian Fielding in 258th and 11th in class in 47.38, followed by Steve Reason in 632nd in 58.33, Julie Gee in 636th in 58.26, and Peter Carnegie in 660th in 59.53.

And wrapping it up was Elizabeth Hattam, tentatively returning from injury, in 664th with a time of 60.23.

Overall winner was Matthew Rees of Swansea Harriers in 31.12, with Lliswerry’s Emma Wookey first woman in 36.21.
