EIGHTEEN Spirit of Monmouth runners took part in Thursday night’s five-mile Severn Bridge night race on the M48 crossing footpath.

The Rogue Runs event was part of Spirits’ club championship, and saw 420 runners launch out sporting fluorescent face paint and flashing lights, with the night sky view reflecting off the estuary.

Rebecca Edwards running her first race for Spirit crossed in 38.22 as first Spirit woman, as they took fifth and 17th in the team competitions, with Alison McMenemy (44.48) picking up another over-65 win and Madeleine Newcombe (47.58) finishing second over-70.

Andy Clifton also took on the Beacons Trail Half Marathon at the weekend, running through some stunning scenic landscape, from rolling hills to rugged mountain paths with breathtaking views, beautiful woodlands and open moorland.

Andy said: “It was a tough race but absolutely perfect weather and stunning views."

He stuck to the plan, and apart from doing an extra 500m due to poor trail marking, finished in 2 hours 37.36.

Steve Reason also raced in Sunday’s 8.5-mile Sudbury Slog – a lung-busting, trainer-ruining, hill-climbing, multi-terrain challenge through the South Gloucestershire countryside.

Attracting around 1,300 runners from all around the globe, the annual Remembrance Sunday event was preceded by an exhortation, two minutes silence and the playing of the Last Post.

Albeit tough, and despite frisky cows enroute, Steve finished in 1.29.00.
