MONMOUTH co-owned rugby league team South Wales Scorpions are giving trials to two ex-players.
Winger Alex Jones, who made 13 competitive appearances between 2012-14 and forward Kyle Perry, who picked up a shoulder injury in a friendly against Wigan Warriors reserves in 2013, are now back in training with the Scorpions.
A Wales under 18 international, Jones, 22, started his rugby league at Bridgend Blue Bulls, went on to play for the old Celtic Crusaders and then the WRL run Scorpions Academy before making his senior debut in 2012.
Meanwhile, 25-year old Perry has been back at his home rugby union club of Rhydyfelin RFC near Pontypridd before the move.
Scorpions coach Phil Carleton has been impressed with the commitment of both players.
“Kyle is as tough as they come,” he said. “He’s been brilliant, working hard and developing well as a potential Rugby League player.
“Alex has been struggling a bit more with work and training balance, but when he’s been able to attend, has looked very good.
“We’ve the makings of a good squad here and with a successful team building exercise behind us, we’re looking forward to our first friendly match in February – the boys can’t wait to get out onto the field.”
