LAST Saturday four young Monmouth rugby players took part in a pre-season friendly for premiership side Cross Keys when they played Glamorgan Wanderers at the Wanderers ground in Cardiff.
Pictured are Ben John, Owen Hughes, Max Davies and Dan White, all of whom have represented Monmouth RFC during one point in their career with three of the boys having attended at Monmouth Boys School.
Owen Hughes played for 60 minutes and scored a try in the second quarter, with the other boys having a run out for 20 minutes each. The match ended in a victory for Cross Keys by 40 points to 21.
Chairman of Monmouth Rugby Club Lloyd Davis said: “It was great to see these young men having a run out for such an excellent club as Cross Keys.
“The boys acquitted themselves well and it is testament to their training both at the boys school and at the club over many years that has equipped them for such an opportunity.
We have a great working relationship with Cross Keys RFC. The Keys normally attend for a training camp in Monmouth pre-season at the end of the Music Festival.
They normally camp on Chippenham Playing Fields and we all have a good get together and a sing song after the training session.
“Greg Woods is the head coach at Cross Keys and the Regional Rugby Manager - Dragons Region for the Welsh Rugby Union and has played a significant part in helping Monmouth RFC develop in recent years and I would like to thank him personally for giving these young men the opportunity to show what they are capable of.”
