OPENER Ian Morgan carried his bat for 102 in Monmouth Cricket Club's Seconds' emphatic 104-run win at Machen Seconds in their final match of the season.

The left-handed Morgan struck 14 boundaries in his 146-ball knock and completed his century by hitting the last delivery of the innings for four to lift Monmouth to 234-8 from 45 overs.

Martin Newell also weighed in, blasting six fours and three sixes in his breezy 48, while newcomer Steve Gale (23) and Jake Bowley (16) also contributed for Monmouth in their final Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League 2nd XI Division Three match of the campaign.

Joe Haley (3-33) and Dale Stibbs (3-57) were the most successful bowlers for Machen in last Saturday's match on a green pitch at the Welfare Ground.

An opening burst from skipper Newell (3-11) and teenager Paris Thomas (1-30) immediately had lowly Machen in trouble and the hosts were eventually shot out for 130 in 40 overs.

Leg-spinner Callum Philpott snapped up 3-52, newcomer Tom Jones (1-13) picked up his maiden wicket for mid-table Monmouth and Bowley finished with 1-8.

Aled Jones capped a superb season by taking 1-7 from nine overs, while Jon Despontin made a sharp stumping and catches were taken by Bowley and Morgan.

Clive Fussell (33) and Dinsmore (23) were the leading scorers for Machen, who had beaten Monmouth at the Sports Ground earlier in the season.

Monmouth Seconds were delighted to have rounded off the season with a victory and have finished a respectable fifth overall in the 2nd XI Division Three table.

Monmouth Seconds, sponsored by Ancre Hill Vineyard, won seven and lost five of their 18 league matches, collecting 158 points at an average of 13 points per match.

Monmouth congratulate Pontymister Seconds and Dinas Powys Seconds on securing promotion after finishing in first and second places, respectively.
