On Remembrance Sunday, 9th November, 177 runners observed a minute's silence before the start of the second winter cross country race at Croft Castle near Leominster.
The race took place around the National trust parkland of the castle, a challenging route beginning with a climb of one mile up to the Iron Age hill fort before descending sharply through woodland and back to the start to complete a further two laps.
The MonRoss team were well represented this time with 10 runners on the start line.
Andy Stephens continued his good form finishing in 4th place in 50m 34s. He will be looking to push for a top 3 finish in subsequent races.
Luke James and Barry Davies came in 21st and 22nd in 55.08 and 55.18 respectively with Phil Thomas close behind in 55.39 claiming 25th place.
Gavin Jones had an excellent first race for the team, finishing 34th in 56.49 followed by an ever improving Matthew Hall (45th, 60.04).
Sam Harness, also racing for MonRoss for the first time, finished in a superb 47th (60.45) followed by James Fletcher who was 58th in 62m 49s.
Dave Knapper finished right behind James in 59th place, 63m 13s, cutting more than a minute off his time round this course last year.
Vanessa Ball ran the alternate ladies course in 39m 30 seconds, finishing in an excellent 17th place.
The team now sit joint second in the league table behind Hereford Couriers and will be ready for their next league race on December 7th.
The team meet for training on Wednesday evenings, 6-7pm, alternating sessions between Ross and Monmouth.
