For Sunday 6th September, the walking club will take part in an energetic 8½ mile walk with the promise of good views.

Built as a Norman fortress, and now a Youth Hostel, St. Briavels Castle has been many things in it’s long history, including a Royal castle and hunting lodge of King John, and was once the administrative and judicial centre of the Forest of Dean.

From St Briavels there is a long descent to the River Wye and eventually returning over St Briavels Common.

The group will leave Glendower Street car park at 9.30am. The aim is to start to walk at 10.00am. so the leaving time from the car park in Monmouth will vary each week.

New members are always welcome to join Monmouth Rambling and Hillwalking Club.

There is a small annual membership subscription. Suitable footwear and clothing are essential. Please bring a drink and a packed lunch. Further information can be obtained from The Tourist Information Office in the Shire Hall, or by telephoning 01633 412013.
