Monmouth RFC have developed a reputation for fund raising in recent years.
Last year they helped to raise funds to assist Chase Vaughan, a seven-year-old from Monmouth, to fund a life changing operation.
Over the past three seasons they have consistently raised funds for Help the Heroes, in conjunction with the 1st Battalion the Rifles and in memory of Rifleman and Monmothian Jamie Gunn.
This year the club has adopted the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice as their main charity and have helped to raise more than £5,000 for the charity since the start of their 140th season.
Members of staff from Convey Law Conveyancing lawyers, David Spear Commercials and Nathan James Estate Agents took part in a 55-mile cycle ride earlier this year along the Taff Trail from Brecon to Cardiff.
Members of Monmouth RFC including Lloyd Davies, Dickie McLennan, Phill Hughes and David Spear – pictured – all took part and completed the journey in record time.
The team, which also included eight other participants, raised in excess of £5,000 for Ty Hafan following a good day's work.
Chairman of Monmouth RFC, Lloyd Davies, said: "We are a community based club and it is always important to remember those that are less fortunate than us.
"Ty Hafan provides hospice care for terminally ill children and their families and relies on private fund raising to raise the £3 million necessary to run the hospice every year.
"Ty Hafan is our chosen charity and The Ty Hafan emblem is displayed on the chest of the playing shirts for all Monmouth RFC teams; it is an incredible institution and one which we are proud to support.
"This was the start of a series of fundraising events for Ty Hafan, with a further £450 being raised and a sponsors lunch held at the club on 2nd November."
