A goalkeeping masterclass held in Monmouth during the holidays proved popular with many budding Joe Harts.
Run by West Bromwich Albion coach Allan Hawkins, young footballers had the chance to learn their handling drills, reaction saves, penalties and low-handed diving saves, as well as some goal-kicking practice. As well as attracting children from the Forest of Dean and Cardiff, some Monmouth youngsters also took part, with Sam Uttley, Tom Bontej and Josh Ellis putting on the gloves.
More than 30 goalkeepers have gone on from The Goalkeeping Academy, run by Allan, to sign for professional clubs.
Among his recent success stories are Oliver Webber, who has signed for Manchester United at the age of 14 and is involved in the Northern Ireland set-up, and 16-year-old Harry Burgoyne, who has signed scholarship forms at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
