GOALS from Ben and Eliot Evans, and another clean sheet thanks to a combined effort from Keiron Blackburn and 19 year old Matthew Johns, clinched a third successive win and clean sheet for Monmouth Town.

In a gritty encounter at Penypound Stadium, Town made the early running and hit the woodwork with a lightening quick attack. With only seven minutes on the clock, defender Ben Evans scored with a stooping looped header to settle any early nerves.

Monmouth were clearly the more accomplished side for most of the first half and comfortable in defence, although Ton did manage to put together some spirited and dangerous attacks.

Luke Cleaves also looked lively down the left as the Kingfishers probed, and Rob Laurie and Joe Loftus bossed the midfield.

Dan MacDonald again looked lively in patches but is still clearly feeling the effects of a hamstring injury but Harrhy again led the line well on a bumpy track.

The second half saw more of the same as Town kept the ball better whenever they could get it under control. The Kingfishers built up pressure with MacDonald going close with a fizzing effort and Eliot Evans blasting wide a couple of times.

As the game wore on, manager Andrew Smith rang the changes to liven up proceedings. Dan Clare returned to the back line, Jack Alderdice moved forward into midfield and Johns came on for Blackburn to protect a groin injury.

Ton Pentre had a couple of good openings which they wasted and, as the game neared its end, a great break saw Eliot Evans score with a calm finish at the far post.

Town's under-19s beat Barry Town at Jenner Park 2-0 to stay in second place in the Welsh League youth division and set up a top of the table clash at Penypound on Thursday when they welcome Taffs Well, kicking off at 7.30pm.
