Monmouth Town clinched promotion to the top flight of the Welsh League with a comprehensive four-nil win over Swansea-based Ammanford last Saturday (31st March).

Two goals apiece from Elliot Ford and full debutant Tom Maxted means that the Kingfishers can focus their last four league games on claiming the league title.

The Town made a couple of changes to the side that beat Bettws six-nil the previous week with Sam Palmer returning to the left hand side of attack and a first full start for Tom Maxted, Tom Burns and Craig Lewis being the unfortunate ones to miss out.

The Town started well and should have been a couple of goals in front in the first quarter of an hour.

Some neat build up play between the Ford brothers and Maxted resulted in the elder Ford lobbing the visiting keeper but unfortunately bouncing against the upright. Maxted got his first goal for the club after 21 minutes, firing home after being put through by Elliott Ford.

Alderdice fired wide from a half cleared corner and Dan Spence headed over when well placed as the Kingfishers dominated both territory and possession in the first half.

Despite the dominance, the game remained in the balance as the Kingfishers took the single goal lead into the half-time break.
