In their first game of the season, Monmouth Junior Netball team played with strength and determination against Abergavenny, taking the lead in the first quarter 11-4.

Holly Dawson, Sophie Pilot and Eloise Brown defended well and with Meggie Jarrold playing well at centre, Abergavenny found it hard to score.

Abergavenny pulled it back in the next two quarters even though Monmouth's defence was strengthened by the addition of Millie Jenkins.

Monmouth went into the fourth quarter eight goals behind Abergavenny and their attack, Holly Ainge and Melissa Brooks, put up a strong fight supported by Meggie Jarrold, allowing Emma Johnson to continue her outstanding shooting, completing her tally with an amazing 12 goals.

The game ended in a 20-20 draw.

Laura Griffiths, one of the junior coaches, said: "It was great experience for our girls particularly our younger players Cerys Hughes, Lauren Oliver and Bronwen Edwards and all the team thoroughly enjoyed playing their first match."

Laura Griffiths and Tracy Hodgson, the junior coaches, would like to thank all the parents for their support and Abergavenny for being such good hosts.

The player of the match was awarded to Holly Ainge.
