MONMOUTH Cricket Club under-9s recorded their first win of the season on Sunday – the first ever over English opposition.

Manager Liam Stubbs was delighted with the hard fought 25 run victory over Canon Frome, describing it as "a fantastic team effort, with contributions from everyone."

A solid batting performance took the home side to 279, with good scores from Cameron Harris and Sam Brennan, as well as an impressive opening stand between Raphael Cackett and returning captain Jake Teague.

A responsible innings from William Wilton prevented the rush of wickets that cost Monmouth dear in the opening two games.

After the interval, Monmouth bowled and fielded with great discipline. Opening bowlers Patrick Stubbs and Lauren Maguire set the tone with fine spells, allowing William Tatham and Boris Hale to capitalise.

The visitors were always behind the asking rate, with no answer to Monmouth's accurate attack. Catrin Watkin recording the outstanding analysis of 3-1-4-0.

Monmouth under-9s have leapfrogged their opponents and now sit in fourth place in the league.
