CHEPSTOW Harriers had a very busy weekend over 26th and 27th October with several members taking on various tough racing
challenges.
15 members journeyed north to Snowdonia to take on the Snowdon Marathon on Saturday 26th October which involved 26.2 miles of hilly road racing in stunning scenery. The results were: Paul Lidgett 03:27:50; Duane Roberts 03:54.36; Rob Beves 03:57:40; Danielle Sapsford 04:03:27; Gareth Jones 04:10:16; Stuart Duncan 04:15:57; Robert James 04:21:50; Karen Elvers 04:26:21; Tom Riddington 04:31:33; Mike Smith 04:50:26; Becca Lane 05:07:47; Tanya Forehead 05:08:28; Berta Havers 05:10:15; Brett Regulski 05:18:07; Paul Mayo 05:27:32.
Nine members took on the tough six mile Sugarloaf fell race on Saturday 26th October. The runners started off in brilliant sunshine, battled wind and rain on the descent, and finished again in sunshine. The results were as follows: Matt Stott 46.18; Dave Austin 53.09; Niki Morgan 55.04; Neil Grant 57.24; Vanessa Lawson 57.58; Maria Anthony 1:01:01; Steve Chave 1:01:30; Colin Prosser 1:09:36; Rob Brown 1:14:19.
On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October, eight Chepstow Harriers, perhaps the hardiest of them all, journeyed north of the border to the Cheviot Hills in southern Scotland to compete in the very tough OMM Original Mountain Marathon.
This two-day navigation event gave the competitors a huge challenge, having to find their way to a series of check-points, covering large distances on very rough terrain, whilst carrying overnight camping equipment, food and emergency supplies and clothing. The results were: Matthew Lawson and Steve Caldwell – 7th in the A class; Andy Creber and Bryan Stadden – 11th in the B class and 1st Vets; Judith Austerberry and Allan McCall – 12th in the D class and 1st Mixed team; Andy Stott and Ed Stott - 10th in the medium score and 1st family team.
