A Nick Harrhy hat trick kickstarted Monmouth Town's season as they bounced back from a rare defeat at Monmouthshire rivals Goytre, who are the visitors to Pen Y Pound this Wednesday (27th) in a 6.30pm kick off. The Kingfishers simply had to register a first win in three after losing to the Plough Road-based outfit despite playing some superb football for large parts of the game. A great strike by Chris Ham was all they had to show from the game won by a point blank strike by Jake Wainright and a Simon Truman penalty. Newly-promoted Ferry at their own ground are a tough proposition but a goal within the first two minutes from Josh Bull calmly slotting the ball away after being set free by Sam Palmer calmed any early game nerves and the Kingfishers looked every inch Welsh League champions in the early parts of the game. On 22 minutes it was Bull again chasing down and dispossessing the dithering goalkeeper and the ball ran free for Nick Harrhy to make it 2-0. At that stage Town were carving out opportunities seemingly at will with Ham having another fine game and Laurie breaking up play and allowing the players to play. Clare and Alderdice were also dealing well with the handful who is Ferry's Gareth Jones. Ferry did have a few openings of their own to serve as a warning against complacency but as in the previous two games Blackburn was rarely troubled and Aaron Davies was also having a sound return to first team action after almost a season out. Unfortunately from an innocuous position Alderdice was adjudged to have impeded a Ferry attack and Jones blasted away the penalty to make it 2-1 at half-time. The game then seemed a little more even but Monmouth just had that little bit of extra determination and imagination and on 70 minutes a  fine pass by Sam Palmer switched play to Ham, whose pass into Harrhy was pinpoint. Harrhy's touch, turn and strike to make it 3-1 was an early contender for goal of the season. A blistering spell followed and Town could and maybe should have made more of a number of chances and openings as Ferry were pulled around at will. Another great strike saw Harrhy ghost in for a fine header to claim the match ball. Ferry pulled a goal back with a great strike from outside the box as the minutes ticked away then saw a great header cannon off the post as they tried to get back into the game, but the points were heading back down the M4 to Monmouth. Town entertain Goytre this Wednesday (27th) at Pen Y Pound then on Saturday they host Swansea-based Garden Village at the stadium at 2.30pm looking to build some  momentum for the season.
