TWO students from Haberdashers’ Monmouth School were given the opportunity to play in the British Junior Golf Tour.

Taio-Blake Burkitt and Alfie Skinner both attended the prestigious event in Italy playing in different categories and carried out great performances the entire way through.

On day one it was the Ashford Manor Classic, where Taio came first in the Boys 8-9 category.

Heading into the 8th hole at level par, with his playing partner sitting at –2, he pulled out a big- time shot driving the green on 8 and making eagle to –2.

He finished tied first but went on to win on count back.

Day one for Alfie saw him come second, shooting 75 off the yellow tees in the boys’ 12-13 category.

On the second day of the event in the Leatherhead Major, Taio came first againin the Boys 8-9 category.

This round was composed and solid, all coming down to the final round.

He made par under pressure while his playing partner carded a double bogey, allowing him to finish level par and take the win.

On day two it was unfortunately cut short for Alfie, as due to injury he was forced to withdraw after nine holes.

The final day of the competition in the Verulam Classic, Taio came 3rd in the Boys eight to nine category.

Taking an aggressive “Tiger line” off the tee, Taio found himself out of bounds twice on one hole, costing him four shots.

Showing true resilience, he bounced back and still claimed a podium finish.

Also showing great determination and resilience, Alfie participated in Day three and finished with a 79 at Verulam Golf Club to secure third place in his category.

A school spokesperson said: “Taio and Alfie both showed recognisable achievements in their golfing tournaments, demonstrating the importance of determination and resilience.”
