MONMOUTH Golf Club’s Ladies marked a successful and uplifting season at their AGM, celebrating competitive success, camaraderie, and optimism for the future.
Despite a year that began with uncertainty for the wider club, the Ladies section emerged stronger, with captain Pat Phillips leading a programme of competitions, social events and friendlies.
Members were praised for their resilience, commitment, and support during a period of significant change, with the club now firmly looking ahead under new owners.
The social calendar again proved a highlight, with the Spring, Autumn, and Christmas lunches well supported, while the club’s renowned Strawberry Tea attracted wide praise.
Competitive golf presented a mixed picture due to conditions, but 21 of the club’s 24 active Lady members entered at least one competition, with notable performances from Wahiba Davis, Ann Jones and Pauline Rogers.
Thirteen members improved their handicaps, with Suzy Mills ‘Most Improved Player’ after an 11-shot reduction.
The Ladies won three out of four friendlies against strong opposition, including The Rolls, South Herefordshire and The Bells, and visiting teams praised the warm welcome, relaxed atmosphere and high-quality food.
The reinstatement of Seniors v Ladies matches, the introduction of a mixed evening roll-up and popularity of morning roll-ups further strengthened links.
Captains’ Day, Presentation Day and the mixed competitions were well supported, helping raise around £2,000 for joint Captains’ Charity MIND.
Prizewinners at the AGM included Mary Woollard MBE (Most 2s), Lindsey Watkins (Dragon Brooch), Marjorie Kimberley (Best Roll-Up Attendance) and Ann Jones (Most Roll-Up Wins).
Expanded friendlies in 2026 include matches against Forest Hills, The Rolls, Raglan and South Herefordshire, with more to be announced.
Members are also preparing for national competition in the Daily Mail Foursomes.
The meeting concluded with the handover of the Captaincy and Vice Captaincy to Rebecca Bond and Suzy Mills.
Becky expressed delight at returning to the game and her enthusiasm for the year ahead, thanking members for their warm welcome and outlining early plans, including potential new team colours.
