The recent Captains Day at Monmouth Golf Club was a huge success, with a real buzz about the place as over 80 golfers from all parts of the club took part in the annual shotgun start stableford competition.

Hosted by men’s captain Robbie Williams, ladies captain Mary Woollard MBE and men’s seniors vice-captain Claude Dube, there was plenty of golfing fun and games, with prizes awarded for chipping into a paddling pool, nearest the centre of the fairway on the 17th and a putting challenge, as well as to the overall stableford competition winners.

A fantastic raffle and auction, with prizes generously donated by club members, helped to raise over £1200 for the captains’ chosen charity, Cancer Research, in memory of Dave Uttley, last season’s men’s vice-captain, who sadly passed away in February.

The captains are indebted to Emma Henry and her bar staff team, for providing a superb buffet and hospitality to all members and guests on the
day.

Meanwhile, the great work undertaken by young county golfer Ollie Moss in running free golf tuition to pupils at Monmouth’s primary schools, was recognised by the staff and participating children at Overmonnow Primary School, with a lovely message posted on social media.

Golf tuition for youngsters is available at the club, as well as flexible membership options for anyone wanting to play at arguably the prettiest golf course in Wales.
