East Gwent Senior League Division Two Thornwell Red and White B 1 Severn Tunnel 2

 

IN a weekend of rain, the only other match to survive was Thornwell Red and White B’s home match against Severn Tunnel C – a game in which Tunnel gained their first points of the season with a 2-1 victory.

“I had to draft in some senior team players to field a team due to work commitments,” said Tunnel manager Ron Atkins.

“I would like to thank Thornwell for playing and praise them for not whinging about doing it.

“The game was end-to-end and enjoyable even though we were all drenched and cold on the sidelines.

“The referee Adji Shuib had a good game and used a common-sense approach.

“It was good to see Callum Wheeler score with his head and then Tom Atkins scored the winner with another header – it was a real Severn Tunnel FC club effort.

“I should also praise Thornwell’s post-match hospitality which was second to none.”
