A BRACE from returning super sub Alex Bradley fired Rockfield Rovers into the next round of the East Gwent Benevolent Cup as they beat Chepstow Town 3rds 3-0 at home on Saturday.

After a fairly quiet first half, Rovers turned to the bench for more attacking threat, and within a minute of coming on, Bradley had headed Rovers ahead with half an hour to play.

Fifteen minutes later, he secured his and Rovers’ second, after a through ball from Ben Wiggins found Bradley, who smashed the ball past the Chepstow keeper to pretty much put the game out of sight.

The cherry on top was delivered in added time, as Wiggins picked the ball up in his own half and produced a long range lob from behind the centre circle, to send Rovers into the next round.

Tintern Abbey were on Cloud Nine after overwhelming Underwood 2nds 9-1 in the same competition at their Wyeside ground, Tom Collins firing four goals.

It was just 2-0 at half-time thanks to a brace from Andrew Sincock (21, 38 pen).

Collins added a third four minutes into the second period, but the visitors hit back for 3-1 three minutes later.

Entering the final half hour, no one could have predicted the Abbey would score six more, but Collins grabbed his second for 4-1 on 60 minutes, and an own goal for 5-1 three minutes later saw the floodgates open.

Collins fired his hat-trick on 67 minutes (6-1), and goals from Bradley Jarratt (72), Collins again (88) and George Gibbard (89) completed the rout.

But Raglan Juniors were on the end of a 7-1 away defeat at Sudbrook CC, Martyn Dembicki with a late consolation before two more goals in stoppage time.

And it was unlucky 13 for Thornwell R&W 2nds, thrashed 13-1 away to Underwood 1sts.

Fixtures this Saturday – Rockfield v Caldicot Town 2nds, Portskewett & Sudbrook v Raglan Juniors, Thornwell R&W 2nds v Caldicot Castle 2nds.
