REDBROOK Rovers lifted the West Dean Charities Intermediate Cup again with victory over Soudley on Sunday.

The 3-1 victory was secured at The Hawthorns, the home of Broadwell AFC, the same venue as Rovers’ previous 2024 triumph.

The Wyeside outfit immediately stamped their authority on the game with two goals in the first 10 minutes.

Rovers had shown attacking intent from the kick-off and it paid off when Joe Reeves opened the scoring with a stunner.

With Soudley keeper Alex Litten off his line, Reeves sent in a perfectly-judged chip from fully 35 yards.

Rovers maintained the momentum and just minutes later Jayden Makandora doubled the advantage, taking the ball into the area and lobbing the advancing Litten to make it 2-0.

Soudley refused to accept that the game was over though and began to press their opponents.

And they got their reward when a direct free-kick was drilled in from near the left-hand touchline giving Theo Bowen in the Redbrook goal no chance.

Soudley were back in the game, but Cai Hawkins restored the two-goal advantage for Rovers before the break, rising highest to head home for 3-1.

And Rovers had the chance to extend the lead when they were awarded a penalty before the break, but Litten anticipated Ieuan Frost’s spot kick well and parried the ball around the left post.

Both sides pressed in the second half but neither could hit the target, with Rovers seeing out the game to lift the trophy.

Several players who were in the cup-winning side on Sunday were also part of the team that drew 5-5 at home to leaders Westbury the day before in a North Gloucestershire Premier table-top battle.

Scott Windley, Jake Teague, Joe Stephens, Cai Dorrington and Gareth Clarke-Williams scored for Rovers, who stay second and face Soudley again in the league this Saturday (October 3), this time away.
