ROCKFIELD Rovers continued their strong start with a fourth straight East Gwent 2 league victory as they defeated Caldicot Castle 2nds 3-1 at home, reports JACOB DEIGHTON.

Rovers found themselves a goal down after 19 minutes after a Stephen Edwards strike, but responded through Ryan O’Keefe with his first Rockfield goal on 35 minutes.

The hosts then took the lead six minutes later, league top scorer Tommy Tynan firing his 10th goal in four games.

And Rovers added a third on 72 minutes, Ryan Jones playing in Sam Deighton and the Rovers No 11 making no mistake, slotting the ball past the Castle keeper.

Lucas Kidman then entered the action in place of Deighton in added time for his Rockfield debut.

And the win puts Rovers joint top, with Chepstow Town 3rds, both on 12 points, after the latter won 8-1 at home to Portskewett & Sudbrook.

Sixteen-year-old Monte Wiltshire fired four for the Jockeys, backed by two for Charlie Key and one apiece for Callum Cochrane and Theo White.

East Gwent 1 table toppers Chepstow Town 2nds were also in seventh heaven, winning 7-1 at home to Caldicot 3rds thanks to Alfie Owen and Luca Goddard braces and goals from Benji Daly, Mason Haysom and Ryan Williams.

But an under-strength Monmouth 2nds had a day to forget, losing 11-0 away to second-placed Undy 3rds, and will want to bounce back at home to Caldicot Castle on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Usk Town 2nds led 2-0 at half-time away to Fairfield 2nds in Gwent Central 2, Jamie Champion from the spot and Sam Rodden with the goals.

But the hosts hit back snatching a 2-2 draw with a leveller seven minutes into stoppage time.

Redbrook Rovers went top of North Gloucestershire 1 with a 5-2 home win over Ruardean United though, Joe Reeves and Ieuan Frost firing braces backed by a Tom Wareham goal.

But the 2nds missed out 2-1 at Alvington Star, Dan Bodenham firing the chip kick consolation.
