ROCKFIELD Rovers secured a hard-fought 3-2 home win over Sudbrook 2nds on Saturday, reports JACOB DEIGHTON.

The away side took the lead after just six minutes, but Rovers were level just two minutes later as midfielder Ryan O’Keefe fired in.

The hosts then took the lead on 29 minutes, Ben Wiggins with a potential goal of the season contender, whipping a shot from outside the box into the top right corner.

And it wouldn’t be a Rockfield win without a Tommy Tynan goal, the Rovers' striker netting his 14th goal of the season from seven league games on 55 minutes for a 3-1 lead.

A late penalty was converted by Sudbrook, but it wasn’t enough, as Rovers held out to take all three points, with the win leaving them second in East Gwent Two, level on points with leaders Chepstow 3rds with a game in hand.

There was little other football at the weekend, although Chepstow outfit Thornwell R&W took the opportunity to thrash 10-man Blaenavon visitors Forgeside 10-1 in the Gwent Amateur Cup, Owen Badham firing a hat-trick, backed by Toby Prettyjohn, Alfie Sessford and Ieuan Evans braces and one from Owain Westerman.

Forgeside actually took the lead after 15 minutes, but the wheels came off after a red card for Kenz Williams on the half-hour mark, with Thornwell leading 3-1 at the break and then running away with it.

Tintern Abbey also nearly hit a perfect 10 in their recent game at home to Caldicot Castle 2nds, winning 9-1 thanks to braces from John Searle, Ollie Moss and Rob Davies, and strikes from Harry Francis, George Gibbard and an own goal.
