A 20TH-minute strike from Dan Macdonald fired Monmouth Town to a 1-0 win at newly-promoted Graig Villa Dino on Friday night.
The hard-earned three points made it four wins from four in the Gwent Premier League top tier for the unbeaten Kingfishers, who play their first home game tonight (Tuesday, September 1) in the County Motors Cup against Trinant following the end of the cricket season.
Last week's win leaves them third with games in hand on leaders Cefn Fforest and RTB Ebbw Vale, and Newport Saints at home on Friday (September 4).
Elsewhere, Chepstow’s Thornwell R&W suffered two losses last week in Gwent Premier 2, 5-2 at home to Newbridge Town in midweek and 3-0 at home to Rassau & Oak on Saturday.
The East Gwent League also starts this Saturday (September 5), when the reformed Raglan Junior FC make their competitive bow away to Caldicot Castle 2nds.
Other fixtures include – Monmouth Town 2nds v Undy 3rds, Rockfield Rovers v Underwood, Chepstow Town 3rds v Caldicot Town 2nds, Tintern Abbey v Portskewett & Sudbrook, Underwood 2nds v Thornwell R&W 2nds.
Redbrook Rovers also begin their North Gloucestershire Premier campaign at home to Lydney Town A the same afternoon.
