BLACKROCK Rovers were the area’s top scorers with an 8-0 home win over Race in what manager Paul Lovell described as a “strong performance”.
The competition for the club’s Golden Boot award is already hotting up after two players netted hat-tricks.
“Race were under strength,” Lovell said, “and they were shown no mercy by us as we ran riot in a one-sided game.”
An early goal from Richard Regulski after good work by Connor Bryant set the scene for the rest of the game and Rovers led 3-0 at the break after Regulski scored his second and Luke James joined the party.
Regulski added a fourth to complete his hat trick early in the second half before Ben Smith found the net four times to complete the rout.
“It was another strong performance,” Lovell added.
Caldicot Castle also enjoyed the best of an eight-goal match, winning 6-2 at Pontnewydd.
Craig McCluskey scored four with Scott McKeon and James Reid adding the others. “It was a really good performance according to my captain/coach Richard Withy,” said manager Alex Hart who was on holiday.
“We were a bit sloppy with the two goals conceded but played some really good football and really should have scored more.
“It’s a really pleasing start to the season.
“We have a massive game on Saturday, at Rhymney, which is going to be a tough game. Undefeated this season, they will be a huge test for us.
“As a squad we are carrying a few injuries and there are a few people away but the squad is really showing its depth and I just hope it continues into next week.”
However, Sudbrook – who are also suffering a shortage of players - lost 5-1 at Tranch.
