SO farewell Monmouth Town, it’s been a blast!

I could repeat ad nauseum the distance travelled but the one thing is that I think we’ve had largely a lot of fun getting to where we set out since that fateful day in June 2005 when I agreed to be chairman of this great club.

I wouldn’t say it’s all been fun or plain sailing. Nor can I say that I achieved anything personally nor even that any of it really matters in the big scheme of things but whatever anyone thinks, we are unrecognisable as a club since that day back in June 2005.

We have produced some good football and footballers and lots of great young men! Sometimes despite, not because, of some local people who wanted us to fail and probably still do!

From Gwent Division Three to Welsh League champions in eight years. No big time money, no big time Charlie’s. Just hard graft, talent, togetherness and a belief that we could do it if we stuck with it!

It’s not up to me now what happens next to this great club but obviously I hope the people who now take the reins build on what has happened just as we built on the undoubted potential and talent the town possesses.

My particular thanks to one or two who’ve kicked every ball at certain times. Andrew Smudger Smith, Andrew Benny Philpotts, Tim Barnard and Terry Cleaves and of course my wife Kath. Special mention too to Mandy, Rob and Robin Pick and yes, Barry Burns, all of whom have put in some serious hard yards and emotions supporting the cause! I salute you and wish you all well.
