South East Wales Cricket League Division One (Second XI) - Sudbrook CC Second XI 252-2 beat Usk CC Second XI (251-3) by eight wickets

RHYS Pescod’s unbeaten 101 runs helped Sudbrook register an excellent victory over Usk at Mill Lane.

After winning the toss, skipper Ian Simmonds asked Usk to bat first and although his brother Rob removed opener Matthew Cook for 21, Mark Tamplin steadied the ship to compile an excellent 119 before being caught by Pescod off a Jon Clements delivery.

Matt Hancock (29) was clean bowled by Pescod and skipper Neil Perrett (49 not out) and Dominic Rees (5 not out) saw Usk post 251-3

In reply, Sudbrook began badly losing Steve Comins without troubling the scorer but Pescod joined Tom Mclaren (44) at the crease and the pair set about the visitors’ attack.

And when Mclaren departed, Joe Bajjada (76 not out) helped Pescod to chase down the target.

“The boys did the club proud,” said Clements later.

“The way they went about chasing the target was excellent.”
