South East Wales Cricket League Division One - Croesyceiliog CC First XI (213-4) beat Chepstow CC First XI (210 all out) by six wickets
CHEPSTOW skipper Jason Dobbie admitted his team’s “poor batting performance” at Croesyceiliog was 70 runs short of a defendable total.
Five of the first six batsmen failed to reach double figures to back up that assessment with only opener Carwyn James offering any resistance until Ollie Thornhill weighed in with 47.
David Monk added 16, Dobbie made 31 and Paul Swingwood added 21 with Luke Watson (10) helping to post 213.
Lewis Pheasant was Croesyceiliog’s main threat, taking 4-44 with Ieuan Wakefield claiming 3-43.
In reply the home side barely broke sweat, Thomas Kear scoring 112 before becoming Swingwood’s first of two wickets and Dobbie had Kear’s opening partner Alex Barry caught by Swingwood for 34.
James Reid was trapped lbw by Carwyn James and Swingwood bowled Alex Kryjom for one run leaving Michael Beacham (5 not out) and Stuart Roden (4 not out) to pass the target.
“Our top and middle order needs to start getting good starts and going on to big scores,” Dobbie said later.
