SOUTH East Wales One leaders Chepstow 1sts looked in trouble at 15-3 and then 78-6 at home to Cardiff 2nds, but still came through to win by 33 runs.

Bottom order batters Lewys Jones with 32, Rhys Leach 25, Bruno Chitnis 22 and Flip Chitnis 22 not out saved the innings as they rallied to reach 189 all out in the 49th over.

And a burst of five wickets for two runs in 12 balls mid-innings blew the city side's reply out of the water from 72-3 to 74-8, Jason Dobbie striking three times in five balls, including a golden duck, and Lewys Jones twice in three balls next over, snaring a duck and a golden duck.

Cardiff's ninth-wicket partnership bravely added 74 to keep their hopes alive, but the damage had been done as they were all out for 156 in 47 overs, Dobbie finishing with 3-12-10, Jones 3-24-10, and Filip Chitnis 2-32-9.

But the 2nds missed out with only four balls remaining away to Miskin Manor 2nds after Malith Madarsinghe scored 46, skipper Tuhin Gavand 28 and Philip Richardson 20 in a 186-7 45-over total.

The run chase was tight, but the hosts always had wickets in hand after an opening partnership of 97 and a second-wicket partnership of 70, reaching 187-3 in the final over, Eddie Hillman taking two wickets and Raahi Kumar the other.

The 3rds were blitzed at home by Monmouth 2nds, who leapfrogged them to third in SEW 12, all out for 85 in 29 overs, with only Tom Absalom 22 and Dan Tyler 16 in double figures before the visitors raced to 91-1 in 14 overs.
