South East Wales Cricket League Division One - Newbridge CC First XI (163-4) beat Chepstow CC First XI (159) by six wickets
LEADERS Chepstow slumped to third place as the result of this loss at title rivals Newbridge after winning the toss and deciding to bat first.
They began well, openers Carwyn James (32) and Dave Teague (33) giving them a springboard from which to build a good target but they lost Teague and Mitchell Harris to leg before wicket decisions and when
Tyler Morgan-Huggett departed without scoring and Oli Thornhill went for a single figure total, the writing was on the wall.
Dobbie (12) and Malith Madurasinghe (18) stopped the rot momentarily but when Madurasinghe was forced to retire, only Luke Watson’s 23 runs offered any real hope.
In reply Watson bowled Newbridge opener James Morgan for 12 but fellow opener David Fortune lived up to his name to finish with 78 not out while Will Davey (16) and Jake Watkins (30 not out) saw the home side ease to victory with almost half their allotted overs unused.
“It was a very disappointing result and performance from us,” admitted skipper Jason Dobbie, later.
“We were beaten by a better team on the day and there were not a lot of positives
we could take from the game so we need to forget the performance and make sure we get back on the wagon next Saturday.”
Newbridge take over at the top of the table and Chepstow are due to travel to second-placed Pontypridd this Saturday.
