A QUICK-FIRE unbeaten 47 from Bea Jones swept Monmouth CC to a five-wicket home win against Malpas in a South Wales Women’s Hardball One clash.
In reply to Malpas’ 153 all out, Jones struck eight fours and a six in a swashbuckling 30 balls to power them to the target with four overs of Sunday's clash remaining.
Openers Sophie Davies (41) and Ashley Burdett (38) also shone, while former Monmouth player Nadia Mackey snapped up 4-25 for Malpas.
Earlier, Kelly Chilton took the bowling plaudits for Monmouth, bagging 4-18 from 5.5 overs, while Jones (2-30), Amelia Holt (2-34) and captain Burdett (1-12) also picked up wickets.
Lorraine Wadley and Chilton took catches, while Natasha Taylor-Rosser (58) impressed for Malpas well supported by Abi Powell (23).
A third win from six games leaves Monmouth fifth with Cardiff 2nds next on Sunday, August 16.
Their previous hardball outing saw Burdett hit 77 in a seven-wicket loss at Sudbrook, cracking10 boundaries in an 85-ball knock as Monmouth posted 166-6 from 30 overs.
However, a 120-run opening stand between Katherine Taylor (77) and Emma Biddle (41) put Sudbrook in control, reaching the target in 26.5 overs.
Monmouth, sponsored by Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, picked up seven points.
Burdett was backed up by Davies (20), Wadley (19 not out), Chilton (17) and Penny Boyle (10).
Despite testing bowling from Monmouth, the opening pair of Taylor, who collected 13 boundaries in her 79-ball innings, and Biddle gave Sudbrook an excellent reply.
Chilton finally broke the partnership removing Biddle before Monmouth claimed a second wicket.
Burdett (1-15), Jill Jones (1-25) and Chilton (1-29) also picked up a wicket apiece, but Erin Richardson (21 not out) guided Sudbrook home.
Lauren Maguire, Holt, Ellie Potter-Irwin and Boyle all bowled spells, while Lisa Evans and Helen McGloin, who pouched a catch, were full of enthusiasm in the field.
