HABERDASHERS' Monmouth student Jacob Blades starred for England U19s against South Africa in the first Test at Kent CCC, scoring 65 in the second innings.

Despite the hosts suffering a 45-run loss, the Glamorgan CCC youngster took a catch in the South African first innings to dismiss the last man for a duck as the tourists reached 295 all out.

England made 220 all out in reply, with Jacob opening the batting unlucky to be bowled for four, before South Africa scored 310 all out in their second innings to leave England needing 386 to win.

Blades then struck a patient 65 off 134 balls in a near four-hour knock, including 11 fours, before holing out, leaving the hosts on 140-4.

A knock of 102 from Caleb Falconer and 51 from Manny Lumsden kept England in the game as they reached 283-5.

But ultimately the target proved too much, with England all out for 340 in the 98th over.

Eighteen-year-old Abergavenny CC starlet Tom Norton was also called up for England, but was ruled out by injury.

The Glamorgan seam bowler made a storming start to his county championship career against Somerset in May, becoming the youngest debutant to take a wicket hat-trick, and the first in over a century.

He then went on to take a maiden five-wicket haul as Glamorgan beat Surrey, dismissing them for just 105 in their first innings.

Norton struck early to bowl Sam Curran for a duck (6-2), before soon sending Dan Lawrence packing as well to a catch for eight (16-3).

England Test player Ollie Pope joined them in short order, caught for one (18-4), before Norton induced another catch from Dom Sibley for eight, as Surrey crumbled to 31-5.

And he then claimed his first championship 'five-for', when Adam Thomas holed out for 25 (75-7), with Tom finishing on 5-50 off 10 overs.
