The second round of the Forest Fours team angling championships was split between Lightmoor Pool, Cinderford and Lydney lake and as expected, the biggest weights came from the Lightmoor sections, where it was carp or bust.

Lydney-based Cormorants put in a storming display to pull themselves right back into contention for the league, finishing a staggering 10.5 points clear on the day.

Local knowledge proved crucial at Lydney where they won both sections, coupled with good points at Lightmoor. Iffers Blue maintained their overall lead after another consistent performance, while reigning champions Wye Angling fared a bit better this month finishing equal second with Iffers Blue on the day.

In the individual stakes, Nick 'Denzil' Probert skilfully negotiated the dense reeds on island peg 30 at Lightmoor to put a dozen big carp on the scales for overall glory, his best fish going over 9lbs.

Over 10 lbs behind in second spot was Rebel's Vince Eamer, who had a less stressful day on peg 21. Young Sam Prosser won C section taking just four fish to the scales for an impressive 27 1/2lbs.

At Lydney, peg six was nearly left out after being repaired as a consequence of the dramatic tree fall the previous week, in which local youngster Matt Grindle had a terrifying experience in the storm.

There were no such dramatics for local rod Colin Stephens who went on to take the lake and section win with a cool display of feeder fishing.

The next three weights at Lydney were all on the opposite bank where Colin's team mate, Bryn Kear, made up for a disappointing first round by taking section B with another net of bream to the feeder.

The next round is on 3rd June at Drummonds, near Ross-on-Wye.
