CHEPSTOW boxer Rosie Eccles won the elite senior Welsh title on Good Friday (3rd April) in front of a full house at the Wales Institute of Sport, Cardiff.

From the start, Chepstow Amateur Boxing Club's (ABC) Rosie came out in a very aggressive manner, forcing her opponent back into her own corner. The onslaught of punches, with a mixture of head and body shots, saw opponent Natasha Williams have no answer to Rosie's speed and power.

This continued until the referee called a halt to the bout towards the end of round one. Rosie will now box for the British title in England on Saturday 23rd May.

Also boxing was Aiden Hampsey, who competed in a youth final.

Aiden lost on points to Micky McDonaugh who had previously won the Welsh title four times, was a two times British silver medalist and is currently in the GB squad.

Despite Aiden putting up a good fight, the experience of McDonaugh told and took a fair, unanimous points decision.

Steve Woods, head coach of Chepstow ABC said: "Now that Aiden knows he can take on the very best boxers in his weight division, he is really looking forward to the challenges ahead and to work that little bit harder in the ring to take the title next year.

"I am extremely pleased with both performances. Chepstow Amateur Boxing Club has had a fantastic season so far and hopefully it will continue."
