Chepstow Cricket Club were on the end of a bruising nine-wicket defeat by Penarth last Saturday (29th June).

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the home side were dismissed for just 77 in 27.5 overs.

Opener Nick Folland (14), Jason Dobbie (16) and Alyn Franklin (22) were the only batsmen to reach double figures on a tough day for Chepstow.

Penarth's Adam Shantry and Tom Sidford did the damage with the ball, taking 4-29 and 4-39 respectively while there was also a wicket for Richard Skone.

It was that man Sidford who also led the chase for Penarth, scoring and unbeaten 42 off 39 balls including nine fours.

He was backed up by Rhys Morgan (19) and Jonathan Davies (11 not out) as the visitors reached 78-1 in just 12.1 overs.

Jason Dobbie took the only wicket to fall.

Chepstow's second team faired better last Saturday, beating Penarth 2nd XI by 24 runs.

Edward Hepworth led the way for Chepstow 2nds, carrying his bat in an unbeaten 114 including 10 fours and two maximums.

Hepworth was supported by Dan Price (22), Amit Kriplani (25) and Justin Thornhill (12) as Chepstow posted a competitive total of 212-8 from their 45 overs.

Peter Ingram, Andrew Prickett and J Humpage all took two wickets for Penarth, while there was also a wicket for Matthew Birch.

Chepstow bowler Tudor Morgan-Huggett was Penarth's chief tormentor as they chased 213 to win, reducing the visitors from 145-3 to 172-8, finishing with the remarkable figures of 5-17 from nine overs.

Thornhill, Kriplani, Jack Farrant and Huw Rogers picked up a wicket apiece as Penarth were restricted to 188-9 from their 45 overs.

Jamie Hitchen top scored for the visitors with 47, with Matthew Thomas scoring 32 and James Erasmus 29.
