MONMOUTH Cricket Club is holding its junior registration evening for all young players tonight (Wednesday 30th April). The signing-on session is taking place in the pavilion at Monmouth Sports Ground from 6pm to 8pm. The club is running mixed youth teams at under-9, under-11, under-13 and under-15 levels this summer as well as a designated girls' side. This is the opening week of the season for the club who's first team, captained by Ben Turner, travel to Vale this Saturday in the Thomas Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire League Division Three. Martin Newell's Monmouth 2nd team are at home to Vale 2nd in 2nd XI Division Three this Saturday, while Liam Stubbs' Monmouth Sunday team travel to Brockhampton in their opening match in the GB Liners Marches Sunday League. Monmouth, sponsored by JD Wetherspoon, are delighted to announce that Mikel Maguire has successfully completed his first rung on the junior coaching ladder. And another valuable member of the coaching set-up, Phil Henshall, has just passed his level one umpiring course. Monmouth Cricket Club are a community-based club and vice-chairman Ian Morgan thanks everyone who supported the well-attended pre-season senior nets. "We offer playing, coaching and volunteering opportunities for people in the Monmouth area and we have incredibly loyal and selfless people involved at the club," said Morgan. "I am amazed at how hard our core group of volunteers work for the love of the club and we have retained a loyal player base who are supporting what we are trying to achieve. "It is refreshing to have senior players who are loyal to the club and can see the wider picture in terms of senior cricket.
