In only his second season as a senior track rider, 20-year-old Lewis Oliva from Devauden has won his first Senior National Champions title.

While competing at the Manchester velodrome, he picked up the silver medal in the individual sprint competition after being relegated in the best of three finals race, due to a technical infringement.

His riding style was described by the commentary team as "bold and exciting".

On the third day of competition he won the Team Sprint race along with fellow British Cycling Academy riders David Daniel and Peter Mitchell, beating more experienced teams containing both World and European champions.

On the strength of this performance, Lewis was selected for his first senior international race – for Great Britain at the European track cycling championships in Lithuania during 18th to 22nd October.

Next month he will be riding for Team Wales at the World Cup event in Glasgow and again at the World Cup in Mexico in January, where he will be testing himself against the best track sprinters in the world.
