On Monday 24th March Monmouth Bridge Club celebrated another enjoyable year by holding its annual party.
In a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with free-flowing drink, party bridge with prizes was played for a couple of hours and then plentiful and tasty food was enjoyed.
The club has over 50 playing members and meets on Monday and Thursday evenings every week for duplicate bridge at Mitchel Troy Village Hall, starting at 7pm sharp and lasting until about 10.15pm.
The club has just purchased a set of electronic scoring devices which enable results for the evening to be available at the end of play. Also, these devices allow a print-out of the hands of cards played to be available on the evening so that players can see what they should have bid and achieved.
The club takes part in charity simultaneous pairs competitions, both Welsh and British, in which many bridge clubs play the same hands on the same evening such that the results can be compared on a country wide basis. Also, friendly bridge matches are held with nearby clubs, such as Ross Bridge Club and Chepstow Bridge Club.
Members vary in their bridge playing standards and all bridge players of whatever standard are very welcome.
Special evenings are held on the third Thursday of each month when extra time is allowed for hands to be discussed and advice given to less experienced players. The dates for a series of 'improver' bridge lessons will be announced soon.
Contact chairman Bob Squire on 01989565470 or secretary Linda Blunt on 01600714847 if you would like to come along one evening.
