Two Monmouth Rugby Club under 11s players have been presented with their Gwent Schools Rugby Union caps by British and Irish Lions legend Graham Price, President of Pontypool and District Schools Rugby Union, having gained representative honours, playing for Gwent against West Glamorgan.

Following a very challenging trials process, Ben Pilot (Overmonnow Primary) and Josh Lewis (Osbaston Primary) have represented Pontypool and District Schools Rugby Union for the last two seasons, as well as turning out for their home club each weekend.

The Gwent Schools team was selected from all three Schools District sides within the county – Newport, Pontypool and Islwyn.

They follow in the footsteps of many famous names who have come through the Pontypool and District ranks – current British and Irish Lions Toby Faletau and Mako Vunipola to name but two.

Scrum-half Ben and winger Josh also represented Pontypool and District Schools on their recent end-of-season tour to Italy, in a challenging Under 12s tournament, returning home as winners of the third place play-off.

"The success and experience gained by these two exciting players of the future illustrate what can be achieved through sport," said Craig Sheppard, chair of Monmouth RFC Young Rugby.

"All at Monmouth Rugby Club are immensely proud of their achievements.

"We look forward to seeing them in action again, as well as welcoming new and existing players to the club, when the season starts on 1st September."
